Research fellowships

- ESPE

The European Society of Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) Research Fellowship Programme aims to improve the lives of young people with endocrine disorders. The programme offers financial support to provide research training for young physicians and PhD students pursuing careers as paediatric endocrinologists.

The programme is solely sponsored by Novo Nordisk A/S and is dedicated to the memory of Henry Brennum, former President of Nordisk Gentofte A/S (subsequently Novo Nordisk A/S). Henry Brennum believed that support for basic research was vital and sponsored ESPE members whenever possible.

The programme offers 2 types of research fellowships:

  • Full Research Fellowships provide 2 years of research training in a centre of excellence. Research grants are given to selected applicants in addition to their clinical endocrinology training or, in the case of PhD students, previous basic science training.
  • Short-Term Research Fellowships supports young European scientists and paediatric endocrinologists for 2- to 6-month research projects at a host institution of excellence. The selected centres are headed by ESPE members, and the training is aimed at achieving specific knowledge and/or technical expertise. Research grants are given to selected applicants within the framework of their overall training.

General criteria for applicants

Applicants for ESPE Research Fellowships should be fully trained in paediatrics and intend to pursue a career in paediatric endocrinology. They should have received clinical endocrine training at their present institution and now require additional research training.

Applicants should be proposed by their present Supervisor/Head of Department, who must be an ESPE member.

Applicants may not apply for a Research Fellowship at their present institution.
