Advocacy

Through advocacy – the active support of an idea or cause – companies as well as individuals and organisations seek to exercise their democratic right to voice concerns, reflect their individual or collective interests, and influence issues that broadly affect society.

However, in promoting a cause through advocacy or public policy, companies must avoid exercising undue influence and favouring narrow self-interest over societal goals. This requires companies to be open about their advocacy, insofar as this does not jeopardise commercial interests, and to demonstrate that advocacy activities are consistent with the company’s values and public positions.

At Novo Nordisk, in addition to supporting the company's products, services and other areas that are vital to the company's long-term commercial interests, much of our advocacy is dedicated to changing diabetes – how it is treated, how it is viewed around the world, and how the future of this disease will be played out. Through our advocacy activities, we work actively as a partner and catalyst for change as part of our mission to find ways of improving and changing the way diabetes is managed – and ultimately defeated.
