Novo Nordisk nominated for the Carl Bertelsmann Prize
- September 2003
The German Bertelsmann Foundation has nominated Novo Nordisk A/S for the 2003 Carl Bertelsmann Prize, which recognises exemplary corporate culture.
Novo Nordisk is nominated for the prestigious prize along with the German BMW Group and the Liechtenstein-based Hilti Aktiengesellschaft. “The three finalists excel in demonstrating how exemplary management and a corporate culture that focuses on employees and customers can contribute decisively to financial success and secure a company’s continuity,” said Professor Dr. Heribert Meffert, Chairman of the Executive Board and the Board of Trustees of the Bertelsmann Foundation.
The Bertelsmann Foundation has awarded the Carl Bertelsmann Prize annually since 1988 to honour solutions to social and political problems. This year, the prize is focused on ‘Corporate Culture and Management as Factors for Success’. Bertelsmann evaluated the management and culture of more than 60 European companies, with a focus on participative management and dialogue-oriented cooperation. Other criteria included the company’s social responsibility; common understanding of goals; continuity of leadership; ability to integrate change; orientation to customers and shareholders; and attitudes, convictions, and values.
The winner of the 2003 Carl Bertelsmann Prize will be announced at an awards ceremony on 21 September 2003 in Gütersloh, Germany. Speakers at the event will include Wolfgang Clement, German Federal Minister of Economics and Labour; Ruud Lubbers, UN High Commissioner for Refugees and former Prime Minister of the Netherlands; and Lars Rebien Sørensen, President and CEO of Novo Nordisk.
