Novo Nordisk rated industry leader
- May 2002
Storebrand's Socially Responsible Research unit has rated Novo Nordisk industry leader among 52 pharmaceutical companies. Novo Nordisk receives the highest score on Storebrand's social index, "beating its sector colleagues by a wide margin" and ranks second place in the environmental index. Thereby, Novo Nordisk qualifies for investment by Storebrand's values-based investment funds.
Our approach to corporate social responsibility receives the following complimentary comments:
"Novo Nordisk communicates its approach to corporate social responsibility in a concise manner, leaving no doubt about the far reaching extent to which the company is engaged and actively working towards continual improvement. Its triple bottom line report 'Dealing with Dilemmas' outlines a mature and at the same time humble approach to these issues. Not many other global businesses have drawn on stakeholder dialogue to the same degree, and few can demonstrate similar systematic follow-ups. The company has clear strategies, triple bottom line indicators, and associated targets. Assessments of contractors and suppliers also integrate environmental and social matters into a global context.
The company is presently combining social and environmental aspects into accounting and using financial data to measure its "economic footprint". This pioneering initiative will provide a real opportunity to validate the theory that a correlation exists between the three factors. The fact that Novo Nordisk's environmental and social performance have been maturing at the same pace as its steady financial growth over the past ten years holds promise for a compelling precedent. Storebrand looks forward to seeing Novo Nordisk's progress and learning from its innovative contributions to sustainable development."
