Novo Nordisk establishes international diabetes foundation

On 13 November 2001, Novo Nordisk announced it will establish an international foundation - the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF) - to support, financially and otherwise, projects aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge of diabetes; preventing, diagnosing and treating diabetes; educating and training health professionals; improving distribution of medicine; and improving access to proper diabetes care.
The WDF was approved by Novo Nordisk shareholders at the Annual General Meeting on 12 March 2002. Novo Nordisk will make annual donations to the WDF of 0.25% of the net insulin sales over the next ten years.
The WDF is part of a broader Novo Nordisk initiative known as LEAD - Leadership in Education and Access to Diabetes Care - which aims to improve diabetes care in developing countries.
