Novo Nordisk's products were introduced to the Chinese market as early as the 1960s.
In 1994 Novo Nordisk decided to invest in China by setting up Novo Nordisk (Tianjin) Biotechnology Co., Ltd., which was later renamed Novo Nordisk (China) Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd.
Headquartered in Beijing, Novo Nordisk now employs more than 1,700 employees and has

Step by step, Novo Nordisk has become the leader in diabetes in China, with a complete organization covering R&D, production, sales and distribution networks.
While providing all major diabetes treatment products and comprehensive diabetes Rx to people with diabetes in China, Novo Nordisk is also committed to China's environment and society and has launched commonweal activities such as for example the NovoCare Bus, the NovoCare Club and the “NovoCare Sunshine Program” in Xinjiang, which is an insulin donation program in an earthquake-ravaged area.
In 2007, 700 top diabetes professionals gathered at the 6th NNDU (Novo Nordisk Diabetes Update) in Sanya city to celebrated the UN Resolution that announced the creation of a joint research foundation in China between Novo Nordisk and the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS). In addition, Novo Nordisk expresses its care for its employees and their families through various events such as the Novo Nordisk Family Day, employee birthday parties and sports days, holiday celebration parties, and the Apis Pin Grant Ceremony, where new and long-time employees receive a silver, golden or platinum pin.
In the survey “2003 Best Employers in China” conducted by Hewitt Associates in collaboration with Asia Wall Street Journal and Far Eastern Economic Review, Novo Nordisk won the "Top 10 Best Employers in China Awards", and ranked number two among all pharmaceutical industry participants.
