Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen joined Novo Nordisk in 1991. He has been head of Growth Hormone research, Diabetes R&D, Global Drug Discovery, and in November 2000 he was appointed executive vice president and chief science officer. In this role, he is responsible for global research, development and regulatory affairs within Novo Nordisk.

Professor Thomsen has chaired Danish Research Council programmes within endocrinology, served as President of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences and has been board member of the Danish Technical University. Today, he serves on the board of directors of Cellartis AB and the University of Copenhagen. He serves on the editorial board of international, peer-reviewed journals.


Professor Thomsen has a DVM from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (now the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Copenhagen), Denmark, from 1986, where he also obtained a PhD in 1989 and a DSc in 1991, and has served as adjunct professor of pharmacology in 2000. He is a former president of the National Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV), Denmark.

Professor Thomsen is a Danish national, born on 27 December 1960.
